“The Taste of Italy” (2013-2015) – a series of 9 works. A review from one of the galleries:
“Shapes of cities and its people is the main concept of this series. A combination of architecture and the beauty of human bodies. It looks like the spirit of an Italian carnival coming through the canvases. Similarly during carnival time people hide themselves in everyday life of a big city.
In these works almost every face hides under a mask. It gives the feeling of mystique and is intriguing to spectators. St. Petersburg is also well known as The North Venice. That is why in these paintings there are images of the great St. Petersburg alongside Venice. At first glance Russia and Italy are quite different countries but St. Petersburg – the city by Neva river – has always been the most European city in Russia and was built by many Italian architects. There exists a connection between cultures of Russia and Italy which has been well-known for hundreds of years.”
